The sales of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition continue to impress as 4J Studios reveals a new marketplace milestone.

It's been quite a whirlwind year for Minecraft, and the Xbox 360 edition of the game is no exception. Having set numerous sales records throughout 2012 for Xbox Live, including selling the most copies in 24 hours, being the fastest to 1 million copies sold, and being the first game to wrest Call of Duty from the top of the Xbox Live "most played" charts. At one point, Minecraft was even selling 17,000 copies a day on the Xbox 360.

Though those numbers have slowed a bit, a new milestone was reached this week when Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition reached 5 million copies sold.

For comparison, the PC and Mac versions have sold just under 10 million copies. That's pretty impressive no matter how you break it down. Most AAA titles would kill to move that many copies of a game in less than a year, but the little indie that could continues to defy expectations.
