In just a little over five weeks, Microsoft has managed to sell an impressive number of Xbox One consoles.

Over on Xbox Wire, Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President of Marketing, Strategy and Business, Xbox, thanked all the supporters for a fantastic 2013. In addition to the Xbox 360's success, you might have heard about a little gaming machine called the Xbox One. Apparently a lot of people didn't just hear about the Xbox One, as over 3 million people added it to their console library.

"Together, we ushered in a new era of games and entertainment with Xbox One," Mehdi said. "Over 3 million Xbox One consoles were sold to consumers in 13 countries before the end of 2013. It’s been incredible to see Xbox One selling at a record-setting pace for Xbox, and we were honored to see Xbox One become the fastest-selling console in the U.S. during our launch month in November."

Just before the holidays, both Sony and Microsoft touted their respective next-gen consoles surpassing the 2 million mark in sales. We'll be keeping a close eye on Sony in the coming days to see just how well the PS4 performed, too. Regardless, 3 million is no small number, and it's great to see the current console generation is off to an impressive start.
