Take a 40-minute-long look at Big Boss' new combat options in this amazing gameplay demo of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

We get an exclusive look at Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's gameplay (courtesy of IGN). Konami confirmed that there are indeed microtransactions in the game, but they're optional and simply save time on certain Mother Base functions that you'll still be able to achieve without spending any extra cash. The title screen takes place on the Aerial Command Center, or ACC. The ACC is a massive helicopter that acts as Snake's on-the-go home away from Mother Base. Inside the chopper is intel and pictures you can see in first person. Near you in the cabin is your selected companion, whose demeanor will change based on your relationship with them. From Your iDroid, you can customize your weapons, buddy, base, vehicles, personnel, emblem and equipment.

You can enter zones without selecting a mission in Free Roam mode and you can pick up missions while you're in the field if you'd like. Before deployment, you can select Snake and his buddy's loadouts and looks. You can even select a vehicle that can be dropped at your landing zone. Once Snake dropped into the field, we got a look at what D-Dog (the wolf from previous trailers) can do as a companion. D-Dog can spot people, animals and resources from far away, which helps find and mark personnel you may have missed. He can also bark to distract enemies from afar or sent in to case a ruckus while you take advantage of the distraction (just don't get him hurt).

In the field, there are side missions you can do at anytime. These missions grant you bonuses. In particular, we saw a side quest where you had to capture and Fulton a Russian interpreter. Once you finish the mission and secure the interpreter, you can then interrogate Russian soldiers and get intel that you previously couldn't understand. You can also Fulton turrets, vehicles and all kinds of resources for pickup and relocation to Mother Base. Snake is able to swap out his buddy at any time, as indicated by D-Dog Fultoning back to base and D-Walker dropping in by parachute. D-Walker is a human-sized mobile Metal Gear unit. Snake can hop on its back and ride it (it can walk on two legs or roll on wheels). D-Walker has a chain-gun as well as an arm to CQC enemies. It also has a scanner that it can use to locate enemies in the area and can be assigned to attack targets or cause distractions. The main mission of the demo had Snake trying to capture a VIP that is surrounded by an elite Spetsnaz squad. Snake and D-Walker were able to get the VIP out of there but Snake had to use a rocket launcher to take down the enemy's anti-aircraft radar and tech, which otherwise would've caused major trouble for the ACC's landing, which costs a significant number of resources if destroyed. By the end of the video, we were left in awe by how innovative everything was.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and its multiplayer companion Metal Gear Online will be available on September 1 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
