A public Nintendo business strategy meeting has revealed the release window for Mario Kart 8, and it's closer than you think.

Thanks to the Wall Street Journal's coverage of Nintendo's business strategy meeting held last night, we got some great Mario Kart 8 news.. During a Q&A section of the meeting, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said the DS will be at the core of Nintendo's strive to profit. Iwata said there is much anticipation for the upcoming Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U. Furthermore, Iwata said that Mario Kart 8 will be hitting the runway sometime this May. Even better, Mario Kart 8 will have a global launch all at the same time. Now, that doesn't mean day and date will be the same across the world, but it does mean everyone everywhere can look forward to racing around in just a few months.

The Wii U could definitely use a few more first-party exclusives to drum up interest in the Wii U. Coupled with the announcement DS titles will be coming to the Wii U's Virtual Console down the road, there might be enough salvation ahead for Nintendo to pull out of its miserable sales funk. At least, we hope so anyway. There's a lot of promise and potential in the Wii U, it's just too bad only Nintendo has been able to capitalize on it (infrequently, mind you), while third-party developers look elsewhere for their big releases.
