See the Cast of ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ Then and Now

Lara Croft returned earlier this year, re-establishing her cred as one of the premiere leading ladies in gaming. However, Lara's stock may never have been higher than it was a little over a decade ago when she inspired not one, but two feature films. Now, twelve years after her first silver screen adventure, we take a look back at 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider' and 'Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life' to see just how far the stars of those loose adaptations have come.

Angelina Jolie, Lara Croft

Then: The casting of Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft was everything a fanboy could have dreamed. She was gorgeous and beat the crap out of everybody who gave her a sideways look. The obligatory and exploitative shower scene early on in the first movie also didn't hurt box office returns. Mostly because young boys couldn't stand up to leave for the next hour.

Now: Angelina Jolie has come quite a long way since her days as the pixie-haired Acid Burn in 'Hackers' and the brunette bombshell, Lara. She's hasn't been in front of the camera for a few years, but Jolie has turns in 'Maleficient' and 'Kung-Fu Panda 3' on the docket. She's also still incredibly gorgeous. So she's got that going for her.

Jon Voight, Lord Richard Croft

Then: Jon Voight showed up in 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider' to play Lara's missing father. Ironically, Voight had been missing from his real daughter's life prior to filming with her on this movie. Though Angelina Jolie and Voight seemingly reconciled their differences, it didn't last long. There's a reason Voight wasn't invited back for the sequel... or Christmas dinner with Brad and the kids.

Now: Voight can be seen in the Showtime original series 'Ray Donovan.' He'll also play the role of Moriarity in the next two 'Baby Geniuses' movies. Remember, this is an Academy Award-winning actor.

Iain Glen, Manfred Powell

Then: Illuminati member Manfred Powell was a bad dude who didn't like the Crofts, and who had grand designs on getting a priceless artifact. Glen pretty much got to play Generic Villain Numero Uno.

Now: It's been more than a decade since his unremarkable turn in 'Tomb Raider,' and Glen has spent much of his time building up his resume on British television. However, you probably know him best as Jorah Mormont, the creepy old dude leering at Daenerys Targaryen, on 'Game of Thrones.'

Daniel Craig, Alex West

Then: In 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,' Craig was a fellow archaeologist of Lara's, though his methods were considered unscrupulous compared to our fair braided maiden's.

Now: Daniel Craig pretty much fell off the radar after 'Tomb Raider.' No one has seen him since. However, there is a man by the name of James Bond who has appeared in several documentaries like 'Casino Royale' and 'Skyfall,' and bears an awful close resemblance to Mr. Craig.

Noah Taylor, Bryce

Then: Taylor played Lara's tech head and resident computer nerd Bryce in both 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider' and 'Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life.'

Now: The years following the second Tomb Raider film saw Taylor continuing to build up a solid list of minor roles in ensemble casts. Like so many other actors on this list however, Taylor might now be best known for his recent turn on 'Game of Thrones' as the guy who chopped off Jamie Lannister's hand.

Chris Barrie, Hillary

Then: Barrie played Lara's wise-cracking butler. He also had a penchant for powerful weapons, but spent more time looking dapper than dangerous.

Now: While his parts in 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider' and 'Cradle of Life' may have been small, Barrie is actually a pretty well known genre actor in the U.K. As one of the original stars of 'Red Dwarf,' Barrie has entertained a generation of sci-fi fans and more.

Gerard Butler, Terry Sheridan

Then: Butler played one of Croft's former flames, Terry Sheridan. After she rescued him from a Kazakh prison, Sheridan assists her in tracking down Pandora's Box.

Now: Gerard Butler bounces around between awful rom-coms like 'Playing for Keeps' and over-the-top action flicks 'Olympus has Fallen.' He's also been tapped to star in the film adaptation of 'Kane and Lynch,' which should be a spectacular failure all around.

Ciaran Hinds, Jonathan Reiss

Then: Reiss wanted his hands on Pandora's Box so he could have the power to shape the future of the world. Unfortunately, it's pretty tough to rule over the globe after you've been knocked into an acid pool.

Now: You can find Hinds portraying the King Beyond the Wall, Mance Rayder, in 'Game of Thrones,' which seems to be some kind of theme in this article. He's also been keeping busy in films like 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' and the upcoming 'Frozen.'

Djimon Honsou, Kosa

Then: Honsou had the distinction of playing Lara's friend and translator. But hey, at least the screenwriters met their quota for racial diversity, even if it was the most stereotypical role of all time.

Now: Mr. Honsou has indeed moved up in the ranks since his bit part in 'Cradle of Life.' He co-starred with Leo DiCaprio in 'Blood Diamond,' voiced T'Challa in the 'Black Panther' animated series and will appear as Korath in 'Guardians of the Galaxy.'

Til Schweiger, Sean

Then: As Reiss' right-hand man, Sean was responsible for ensuring Lara Croft offered little resistance and stayed out of the way of Reiss' plans. He was so terrible at his job that he died. Horribly.

Now: Schweiger may not be a household name here in the States, but over in Germany, he's one of the biggest stars in town. Still, that doesn't stop him from appearing in more American productions like 'Muppets Most Wanted' and 'Inglorious Basterds' from time to time. Of course, he also starred in Uwe Boll's 'Far Cry' adaptation, which was probably the worst decision anyone ever made in the history of the universe.
