We have some looks at who is on the official roster for Mortal Kombat X so far while some concept art suggests the return of a fan favorite.

Thanks to IGN, we have learned which fighters have been confirmed so far for Mortal Kombat X. The title apparently takes place roughly 25 years after the events of the 2011 game. We believe that the story will continue from MK9's plot in which Sindel and Shao Kahn murdered most of Earthrealm's warriors. For those who don't remember, the story mode of the last Mortal Kombat had Kitana, Smoke, Jade, Jax, Smoke, Sub-Zero, Striker, Kabal all being brutally killed by Sindel. Sindel and (presumably), Noob Saibot were both killed due to Nightwolf's sacrifice. Liu Kang was killed by Raiden, who went on to ultimately kill Shao Kahn. This left us with only Raiden, Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage, Quan Chi and the surprise of Mortal Kombat 4 villain Shinnok as the survivors of MK9.

Since MK9 retconned the events of Mortal Kombat 1-3, we're very interested to see if MKX does the same for MK4's story and beyond or if it takes things in a completely different direction. So far here are the confirmed characters of Mortal Kombat X:

Scorpion still has his toasty personality.

Since the original Sub-Zero, Bi-Han, was killed during the events of the first Mortal Kombat and his brother, Kuai Liang, was killed by Sindel, we're wondering if MKX's incarnation of the cyromancer is a new Lin Kuei ninja. It could be possible that this is actually Kuai Liang, whose robotic form survived Sindel's attack and was changed back to his original body by Raiden, Quan Chi or someone else.

Cassie Cage is actually the daughter of Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage. Any character who can potentially do the split punch and the kiss of death is a welcome addition to the fight against Outworld. One of her fighting styles actually features her donning her father's signature shades.

Kotal Kahn is a giant of a fighter who is likely to be a relative to series antagonist, Shao Kahn. Based upon his gameplay, we're thinking he may not be as physically strong as Shao was, but he definitely is on equal terms in terms of fighting with the rest of the roster.

D'Vorah is likely to be a fighter from Outworld or beyond. Her attacks and visage are insect and arachnid-themed, revolving around her using swarms of bugs along with her own stingers.

Ferra & Torr are a child and behemoth duo fighting as a team. We have a feeling underneath that burlap bag is a member of the Shokan race (think Goro, Shiva and Kintaro). Many of their combos and attacks involve the larger one doing most of the work, with the little one going in for a few quick stabs or bites whenever the opportunity arises.

Thanks to TestYourMight, we have found some pieces of "concept fanart" created by Bernard Beneteau. While fanart would suggest these pictures should be dismissed, Beneteau is actually a senior artist at NetherRealm Studios and made many of the character designs for Injustice: Gods Among Us. These pictures suggest Ermac could be making the jump to Mortal Kombat X, making him yet another survivor from MK9.
