The director of Kingdom Hearts 3 teased some major announcements about the anticipated Disney and Square Enix crossover, including another smartphone game

According to Gematsu, the newest issue of the Japanese gaming mag, Famitsu, featured an interview with Tetsuya Nomura, the director of Kingdom Hearts 3. Nomura, who was the original director of Final Fantasy XV before being replaced to focus on Sora and the gang, revealed that there are some big announcements on the way. Unfortunately, we're going to have to wait for many of them. Square Enix plans to unveil some major information about the game at the D23 Expo Japan, which is a Disney fan convention. Don't bother checking your calendars, because D23 Japan isn't happening until August this year. We have a feeling we'll see more from Kingdom Hearts 3 at E3 2015 this June.

Here's what Nomura said in regards to Kingdom Hearts 3's presence at D23:

We have some interesting things planned. There will be Kingdom Hearts III news, and various things, I think. Development on Kingdom Hearts III is going smoothly, but there will also be new announcements connected to it. As one of those new announcements, I think we should be able to announce a smartphone-specific development for the series in short order.

Famitsu's interview with Nomura was mainly about the Japanese smartphone RPG, Rampage Land Rankers. Nevertheless, we're glad to hear some kind of update in regards to this anticipated project, even if it's just a tease. A smartphone spin-off for Kingdom Hearts would be nice, as it's not the first time Square Enix experimented with one. Kingdom Hearts: Coded for the Nintendo DS was originally a Japanese exclusive smartphone game. Let's just hope the next one gets a widespread release. Stay tuned as we'll provide up-to-date coverage on Kingdom Hearts 3 once more information is available.
