The mind behind some of the greatest horror films ever made has his eyes set on adapting Visceral's Dead Space into a full-fledged movie.

In a recent interview in Game Informer's latest issue (spotted by Videogamer), John Carpenter talked a bit about his desire to bring Dead Space to the cinema.

"You know it's great," Carpenter told the magazine. "The first game was more - I guess it was like Alien - but not quite. It was a little different than that. I maintain that Dead Space would just make a great movie because you have these people coming onto an abandoned, shut-down space ship and they have to start it up and something's on board. It's just great stuff.

"I would love to make Dead Space [into a film], I'll tell you that right now. That one is ready-made."

When the mind behind The Thing, one of the ultimate survival horror thrillers, says he wants a crack at one of the most terrifying video games of the last decade, we're inclined to throw our support behind him. Carpenter is no stranger to video games, as The Thing was adapted into a video game on the PlayStation 2. It was just as tense and gut-wrenching as the movie.

What do you think of Carpenter helming a Dead Space film? Could someone finally make a great video game movie?
