Iron Galaxy CEO on Future of Killer Instinct, Next Patch and Fulgore's Debut

After Amazon purchased Double Helix Games last month, we were worried about the future of Killer Instinct. Luckily, the head of Iron Galaxy Studios has stepped forward to hit our worries with a well-timed Combo Breaker.

Polygon has recently interviewed Dave Lang, CEO of Iron Galaxy Studios, about how massive it is inheriting Killer Instinct from Double Helix after Amazon purchased the studio. Luckily, Microsoft has decided to bring in Iron Galaxy Studios in order to continue in Double Helix's footsteps. Iron Galaxy Studios is primarily known for its work on the 2011 port of Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike Online Edition, Darkstalkers Resurrection and last summer's fighting game sleeper hit, Divekick.

Lang openly speaks about the project, honestly stating that taking the reins from Double Helix is "probably the biggest thing" they've ever done.

"Before we were ever talking about this, I was a fan of the game. And to get to now take it over and start with this great base, and expand it and put new stuff on top of it, everyone in the company is super pumped up, and we can't wait to show people what we're going to be doing down the road," Lang told Polygon.

Before Iron Galaxy can officially step up as pinch hitter, Double Helix is contractually obligated to finish up the final piece of Killer Instinct's "first season" of content. The last update of this season will include the addition of Killer Instinct's eighth and last downloadable character, Fulgore, the cyborg combo machine.

Fulgore will be included in Killer Instinct's title update which will also include an Arcade Mode (with a story for each character included), online lobbies supporting up to eight-players and a spectator option for those waiting in the lobby. This update was originally intended to come out this month, but is finally releasing on April 9.

Switching from Double Helix to Iron Galaxy is no easy task, especially considering that Double Helix made the Hex engine, which was used in its debut to develop Killer Instinct.
