Both Toon Link and Helmaroc King are making the jump from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker to Hyrule Warriors Legends on the Nintendo 3DS.

Earlier this year, Nintendo and Koei Tecmo announced that they are bringing Hyrule Warriors to the 3DS. This Dynasty Warriors-esque game takes the franchise's signature style of combat featuring 1 vs. 100s and gives it all a Hylian makeover. We previously learned that the King of Red Lions, Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule, will be a playable character added to the Hyrule Warriors roster. Likewise, Tetra, Princess Zelda's pirate-y alter ego, has been added as well. Both of these characters debuted in The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.

To no surprise, Toon Link has been added to the game's roster as well (courtesy of Destructoid). What we weren't expecting is that the Helmaroc King (the giant bird boss who abducted your sister and worked for Ganon) is joining the Hyrule Warriors team. While all of these Wind Waker characters won't be playable in the main story mode of Hyrule Warriors, you'll still be able to play them throughout the game's stages. This revamped, portable version of Hyrule Warriors will also include the much-needed ability to change characters on-the-fly in the middle of a mission. These new characters will also carry over to the Wii U version of Hyrule Warriors.

While no release date has been set, Hyrule Warriors Legends is expected to launch for the Nintendo 3DS sometime in Q1 2016.
