Project X Zone

Looking for a great new strategy RPG? Pick up Fire Emblem: Awakening. However, if you are looking for a crazy title filled with high flying combos, a weird crossover fanfic story, and lots and lots of panty shots, then Project X Zone is your game. This thoroughly enjoyable Strategy RPG from Namco Bandai continues the tale of Namco X Capcom and Super Robot Tasien OG Saga by putting IPS from three different companies (Sega, Namco Bandai, and Capcom) together in one huge crossover fight fest. Project X Zone belongs on our list of the 10 Greatest 2013 Summer Games.

Remember Me

Unfortunately somewhat forgotten during the Summer Slum, Remember Me was a great action game with an awesome customizable combo system. It also had a really cool premise, a cyperpunk world where memories are bought, sold, altered, and stolen. It’s kind of like Total Recall, but in a futuristic France, and without Arnold Schwarzenegger and that three-breasted chick.

Poker Night 2

Poker Night 2

A lot of people missed this game, sadly. The sequel to the original Poker Night at the Inventory, Poker Night 2, featured great names like Sam from Sam and Max, Brock Samson from the Venture Bros., Ash from the Evil Dead trilogy, ClapTrap from Borderlands 2, and even Glad0s as the dealer! Sure it was basically just a Poker game, but for five bucks it was one of the most hilarious games you could pick up this summer.

Shin Megami Tensei 4

It has been ages since Shim Megami Tensei: Nocture game out for the PS3. So it’s about time we finally got a new numbered title. Sure, Persona and Digital Devil Saga is good and all but nothing quite compares to traveling through a ruined Tokyo with a party of demons. Shin Megami Tensei 4 is a magnificent RPG for the 3DS and a definite buy for JRPG fans everywhere.

Dragon's Crown

Dragon’s Crown

The reasons why Dragon’s Crown is awesome are almost too numerable to count. There’s the awesome RPG/beat-em-up gameplay. The beautiful art by Vanillaware. The interesting and compelling story. Sorceresses' boobies… we mean… uh… the… uhm… online… community. Yeah… yeah, that’s what we meant.

Animal Crossing New Leaf

Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Want to waste hours and hours of your life living a second imaginary life? Well, now you can! Animal Crossing: New Leaf is already one of the most well received 3DS games of this year, and it game out during the Summer Slum. Now there are tons of 3DS fans tending gardens and rearranging furniture rather than going to the beach, and they are actually enjoying it! Believe us when we tell you that Animal Crossing: New leaf belongs on our list of the 10 Greatest 2013 Summer Games.

MArio and Luigi Dream TEam

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

Tons of quality 3DS games came out during the summer slum this year. Mario and Luigi Dream Team is just one of these magnificent titles, The next great entry in the Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga of RPGs, Mario & Luigi Dream Team refines the awesome 2D/3D switch up gameplay we saw in Bowser’s Inside Story for a brand new generation.

Tales of Xillia
3

Tales of Xillia

After a nearly two year long wait, Tales of Xillia finally made its way over to the States. Perhaps the best game in the Tales series of this generation, Xillia has an awesome new battle system, a compelling story, and a mish mash of gameplay elements from both the Symphonia, and Destiny teams. Sure, its summer localization was a bit of a fluke, but it is easily one of the best games to come out in the summer slum this year.

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragonm
2

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

Why go out to the pool when you can shoot dragons in the face with your cybernetic arm? Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was best described as a video game remix, a brand new property made using the existing engine of another game. It was a risky experiment, but it totally worked, bringing back the raid and survival gameplay of Far Cry 3 with a heavy dose of '80s schlock. As far as summer slum games go, this is one of the best.

The Last of Us
1

The Last of Us

The Last of Us basically flew in the face of conventional knowledge which stated that interesting games never come out during the summer slums. However, The Last of Us isn’t just one of the 10 Greatest 2013 Summer Games, it’s one of the best games this year! This gripping tale of survival in a post apocalyptic wasteland is one of the most artistic games we have ever played, and we can’t wait to see Naughty Dog do more with the IP.
