Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive have announced the launch day sales figures for one of 2013's most anticipated sequels, Grand Theft Auto 5. They are nothing short of incredible.

Grand Theft Auto 5 managed to earn $800 million in just one day during its worldwide launch. Few games generate as much buzz as a GTA title, and fans clearly turned out in droves to snap up the game during its first 24-hours of availability.

“All of us at Take-Two are thrilled with the initial response to Grand Theft Auto 5. Once again, the team at Rockstar Games have outdone themselves, setting the entertainment industry's new standard for creativity, innovation and excellence," said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two in a statement.

There are no individual numbers for just many copies were sold, or which version of the game was the biggest seller. However, it's already apparent that just after one day, GTA5 will be one of 2013's most successful titles commercially. We'll have to see if Call of Duty can reprise its annual role as the top dog, but for now the lead is Rockstar's to lose.
