Per Joystiq, Microsoft has decided not to move forward with the Kinect game Matter, which was being developed by Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski and Blind Wink Games. A Microsoft Studios rep said that there were "no further details" to share on Matter's demise.

Mr. Verbinski announced the formation of Blind Wink Productions back in 2011. Footage from Matter was shown at last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. The title was slated for a launch on Xbox Live Arcade this year, but now that Caribbean ship has sailed.

This is the second showbiz power player to falter in the video game industry, as it was announced this week that Jerry Bruckheimer Games had been closed without ever releasing a game. Ironically, Bruckheimer is the producer of The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and he's also producing Verbinski's upcoming film The Lone Ranger.
