Anyone returning to Delta Squad in Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will be able to play the series' entire Xbox 360 anthology.

The Xbox Wire has announced that anyone who purchases Gears of War: Ultimate Edition or the Ultimate Edition Bundle will be able to unlock the entire Gears series through the Xbox One's new backwards compatibility. Microsoft announced the Xbox One's backwards compatibility back at E3 2015, which shocked the world as many gamers thought Sony and Microsoft abandoned the long desired feature. Nevertheless, anyone who purchases and plays Gears of War: Ultimate Edition from Aug. 25 to Dec. 31, 2015 will be able to unlock Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3 and Gears of War: Judgment as backwards compatible games on their Xbox Live account, which they should be able to play directly from their Xbox One console.

While playing the original trilogy and Judgment, you'll be able to take screenshots, record videos, snap programs, use your old save files and play with your friends on Xbox Live, regardless if they're playing the older games on Xbox 360 or on Xbox One. Even better, getting Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will give you early access to Gears of War 4's multiplayer beta. Given the base game's $39.99 price tag, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is turning out to be quite a deal for Xbox One players.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will launch on Aug. 25 for Xbox One.
