It's amazing what the gaming community can do for the sake of the greater good.

Speed Demos Archive has announced that its latest charity event, Summer Games Done Quick, has raised $713,338.96 as of last night. Games Done Quick had a week-long marathon of live speedruns featuring some of our favorite games of all time being played by some of its fastest fans. Records were broken and Games Done Quick was able to raise nearly this vast collection of donations for the Medecins Sans Frontieres charity, also known as Doctors Without Borders.

The Summer Games Done Quick 2014 event featured some absolutely groundbreaking speedruns of nearly every Mario game we could name, Double Dragon 2, Super Metroid, TMNT IV: Turtles in Time, Quake, Doom, Jet Set Radio, Aladdin, Samurai Pizza Cats, Earthworm Jim and many other timeless classics.

Games Done Quick also had a special Humble Bundle, which sold 3,254 bundles, resulting in all of its proceeds, totaling $82,984.71, being donated to Doctors Without Borders. We applaud anyone who donated to this noteworthy cause and the good folks at Speed Demos Archive for putting this charity marathon together.
