Say goodbye to XCOM, and welcome The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, a new third-person tactical shooter arriving August 20th.

Back in 2010, 2K Marin unveiled XCOM, a first-person shooter set in 1962 that had players tracking down aliens across the country. That game has since evolved quite a bit, and on Friday, 2K announced The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, a game with a similar spirit but drastically different play style.

“The Bureau tells the story of XCOM’s mysterious beginnings,” said Morgan Gray, creative director at 2K Marin. “We’re expanding the universe with a declassified tale of government conspiracy and heroic cover-ups told through third-person tactical gameplay.”

Still set in 1962, The Bureau will put players in the shoes of special agent William Carter, as they lead the government agency in not only eliminating the alien threat, but also in preventing the truth from leaking out and causing a nationwide panic. Similarly to X-Com: Enemy Unknown, players will have full command over the battlefield, and will have to deal with consequences like permadeath if things go south.

2K also announced anyone who pre-orders the game will get exclusive access to the Codebreakers side-mission. You can check out the first screens and trailer for The Bureau below, and let us know if you think the truth is out there, and it needs to be covered up.
