Electronic Arts Releases Trailer For Ultima Forever

It's been awhile since we've thought about the Ultima series, but thanks to Electronic Arts, we'll be seeing a new Ultima game sometime soon! Click through for some screenshots and a trailer.

A quick look at the trailer will give you an idea of what this game is going to feel like. Right off the bat, it looks like Garriott has been spending a lot of time with Blizzard titles recently, as the look of the game calls to mind the large-featured, cartoonish environments of World of Warcraft and the most recent Diablo game. In other words, it looks a LOT different than the sparse sprites of Ultima Online.

Speaking of that old game, longtime Ultima fans might be disappointed to learn that series creator Richard "Lord British" Garriott is rumored to not have anything to do with the new game. We guess he must be too busy with his travels in outer space and all that.

Right now Ultima Forever is scheduled for a spring release. Since this is the well-oiled machine of EA we're talking about here, our guess is that the game will arrive on time and without delay. But since this is the well-oiled machine that is EA, we think this might end up being a hijacking of an old property to help sell an otherwise unremarkable game. We'll have to wait and see.
