After a massive deluge of fan outcry, Nintendo, via today's Nintendo Direct presentation, has decided to release the massively popular EarthBound on the Wii U Virtual Console in the U.S. and Europe before the end of 2013.

Already available on Japan's Virtual Console as Mother 2, EarthBound is one of the most treasured Super Nintendo role-playing games of all-time. What's more, the game is incredibly rare, making it that much more sought after.

Wii U owners will finally be able to get their hands on EarthBound later this year, which should ease the burden of those skeptical of paying hundreds of dollars for a nearly 20-year old game. Though there wasn't an exact date given for its release, Nintendo's Satoru Iwata promised it would arrive before the clock struck midnight on December 31st.

Now that you know EarthBound is coming to the Virtual Console, are you happy?
