Confirming a recent leak from earlier this month, Bungie has announced Destiny's third expansion, The Taken King.

Destiny: The Taken King focuses on Oryx, the father of Crota (who Guardians killed in the first Destiny expansion). Oryx has summoned a new kind of foe that will be attacking you when you least expect it. The Taken armies utilize the Darkness itself, and you'll see how this affects the other alien foes around them. As you would expect, this expansion is a lot grander than the previous two and will feature an entire new campaign, new abilities, a revamped Crucible, all kinds of new loot and much more.

Each character class is getting a third subclass that comes with a new ability. The Nightstalker Hunter can shoot a void bow that will land an energy-filled arrow into an enemy. This arrow will splinter off into nearby baddies and keep them anchored, immobilizing them for a few seconds. The new Titan subclass, Sunbreaker, gets a new Solar hammer that you can swing for powerful melee attacks or throw around the battlefield just like Thor. The most impressive of the new subclasses would have to be the Warlock (Stormcaller), whose new ability starts with a bolt of lighting hitting the player. You then float above the ground and are able to continuously shoot lighting at enemies for some serious arc damage.

With Destiny: The Taken King, the PlayStation-exclusive content is starting to get more elaborate. PS players can get the an exclusive gear set for each class and the Jade Rabbit scout rifle. They'll also be getting the exclusive Echo Chamber Strike and Sector 618 Crucible map.

Bungie also announced Destiny: The Taken King - Legendary Edition, which is perfect for newcomers. For $59.99, it will feature Destiny and all three expansions, including The Taken King. There is also a Collector's Edition set as well.

Destiny: The Taken King will launch on Sept. 15 for $39.99.
