When Dead Island: Riptide’s premium “Zombie Bait Edition” was first being teased, developer Deep Silver revealed what might have been the most grotesque collector’s edition bonus yet. It was a large plastic torso of a bikini clad woman whose arms, legs, and head had been ripped off.

The torso was made in gruesome detail, with ribs showing through the skin, numerous flesh wounds all over the body, and blood smeared everywhere. The only part of the torso that was not injured was, of course, the breasts.

The torso was so tasteless that Deep Silver issued a public apology saying that they deeply regret the choice and that they will work hard to never make something like this happen again. However, that whole apology must have meant nothing as Kotaku is reporting that the game is shipping with the dismembered torso figurine anyway!

Kotaku attempted to reach out to Deep Silver and parent company Koch Media to figure out why they would let such a thing happen after their profuse apologies, but they received no response. CNET Australia, on the other hand, had a bit more luck being told “an extremely limited quantity of the Zombie Bait edition has been made available to some retailers for those customers who wish to purchase it.”

In short, it doesn’t matter that a wide variety of people were offended by this grotesque figure because some people are in to that sort of thing.
