There's something dreamy about the world under the sea. While it is a very real place, the ocean is a relative unknown to many. Unless you're a diver or a marine scientist of some sort, there's a good chance you haven't seen much of what's lurking and living beneath the waves. We don't always need to travel to another planet to experience an alien world; we have one right here on Earth that's dying to be explored. That's just part of what makes Abzu such a wondrous experience. Living under the sea --- without the restrictions of actual scuba diving --- swimming with the fish and observing all the ocean's wide expanse has to offer is coupled with a great mystery of a lost civilization only you can solve.

The Gulf Coast is home to some of the most beautiful scenery you'll ever witness. Sunsets just look a little bit more majestic in the southernmost parts of the country, and Hangar 13 has managed to capture that stunning quality quite well for its upcoming action game, Mafia III. Most times, 24-hour day/night cycles in open world games are merely perfunctory displays, with little thought to the vibrancy of nature's palette. Driving on a coastal highway or even through the bayou, it's hard not to stare in awe at the majesty Hangar 13's been able to capture for this sequel.

Nintendo’s E3 was all about The Legend of Zelda. Literally. Its booth in the Los Angeles Convention Center was transformed to look like a locale straight outta Hyrule, and the only title on display was the next game in the decades-old action/adventure series. Nintendo is putting a lot of eggs in one basket with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, making some big changes to the classic Zelda formula. I was worried that the massive open world and Link’s host of new abilities (he can cook!) would make Breath of the Wild feel less like a Zelda game, but after spending some time in the reimagined Hyrule, I’m no longer afraid of change.

Infinity Ward is pitching Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare as a clear cut story about good versus evil. As the first Call of Duty game from Infinity Ward to be developed on Activision's three-year cycle for the franchise, the developer has spent a lot of time thinking about how it can progress the narrative beyond the traditional perspectives we typically see from the franchise. In the upcoming Infinite Warfare, players will no longer be a mere tool of war, they'll be the tip of the spear.

For the past few years, every time there's a new Forza game announcement to make, Microsoft, Turn 10 and Playground Games roll out an impressive new feature car to view in person at E3. Last year's debut of the 2017 Ford GT was cool, but if you're an '80s kid, this year's showcasing of the Lamborghini Centenario blew it away. What can we say? If you were a kid in the '80s, you probably had posters of the Lamborghini Countach hanging in your room right next to the New Kids on the Block. Lambos have come a long way over the past three decades, and the Centenario is work of art. It's also a blast to drive through the beaches of Australia, even if it is just a video game.

You know what's cool? Grabbing Atrocitus, flying him into space, taking a lap around the sun, and then blasting him back down to Earth with heat vision. No matter how many times we were able to pull off Supergirl's super move in Injustice 2, that trip round Sol just never got old. It was just about the most satisfying special attack you could ask for when adding Supergirl to the roster. It certainly beats her cousin's, which merely takes place in the upper atmosphere, and has him punching his opponent a few times before flinging that foe back down to the ground. So yeah, Supergirl is better than Superman.

Virtual reality is supposed to provide an escape from the real world. But what happens when you want to escape virtual reality? Some of the experiences we've had with VR this past week have been tremendous. Resident Evil 7 VR is certainly a kind of experience, but tremendous isn't quite the word we'd use. Terrifying and unsettling are more apt, and its not just because being in a VR headset can be disorienting at times. It's because the horrifying images don't disappear when you look away.

How do you take one of 2015's most successful and fan-favorite games and improve on it for a sequel? Well, if you're Lego Dimensions, you just don't make a sequel. Instead, you spend all that time just adding to the formula that got the original incarnation of Lego Dimensions so much acclaim and attention. In addition to implementing some slight tweaks to the foundation you built less than a year ago, you go bigger and more outrageous with the content as well. Not only is Lego Dimensions bringing the same tested gameplay back, without the need for new portals or game discs, it's also adding a crazy number of new characters and worlds to the base game without skipping a beat.

I worried a bit about Koei Tecmo taking on Attack on Titan. The publisher’s previous foray into the anime realm, two games based on Fist of the North Star, really underwhelmed me with monotonous gameplay and rehashed ideas. I went into my hands-on demo for Titan expecting to write about more of the same things I’d played before, but I left the demo completely surprised. Attack on Titan is a bold new direction, and if it pans out it could be a new era of success for the company.

Just about every kid has a dream of one day being a superhero. It's not something that's actually practical, but it's a noble ideal to think you could be saving the world and standing shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Batman. While video games have given us ample opportunities to somewhat play out those fantasies, there's still enough of a disconnect between the real world and the gaming world that it doesn't quite scratch that childhood itch.
