Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz said in a note to investors today (via Gamespot) that post-holiday sales have given a significant boost to Call of Duty: Black Ops II’s numbers. If it continues to sell at the rate it is selling right now, it is very possible that BLOPS 2 may take the title of best selling Call of Duty game of all time.

The game is already significantly outselling its predecessor Modern Warfare 3, but to truly become the most popular COD game ever released, it will have to break the first Black Ops’ sales peak of 25 million units.

These numbers represent a slow transition away from the popularity of Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare line, and an increased focus on Treyarch’s Black Ops line. Activision has confirmed that a new Call of Duty game will be released in 2013, but CFO Dennis Durkin has already stated that he does not expect the title to match the sales of Black Ops II.

Activision will report its earnings for the first quarter of 2013 on May 8th. We will bring you more information when the full report becomes available.
