As we near the release of Batman: Arkham Knight, Warner Bros. Interactive and Rocksteady Studios are in full hype mode. Nary a day has gone since the Memorial Day holiday that we haven't gotten some new promotional materials focused solely on putting Rocksteady's third Bat-game in the spotlight. With E3 just around the bend, it's traditionally rather hard to get any attention for a title releasing during the month of June, but perhaps the Arkham Knight team is hoping to break through to potential players by bombarding them with endless trailers and incentives.

Today, we get our first decent look at the Harley Quinn story missions offered as pre-order downloadable content. Serving as a preamble to the content of Arkham Knight proper, the Harley Quinn DLC finds the widowed villainess in Blüdhaven, where she's focused on saving Poison Ivy from some sort of trouble. Along the way, she's picked up some new duds, and according the this trailer, has managed to draw the ire of Blüdhaven's guardian, Nightwing.

Tara Strong reprises her role here, after taking over Harley Quinn duties from Arleen Sorkin (the original voice of Harley on Batman: The Animated Series and Batman: Arkham Asylum, among others). There's very little dialogue in this teaser, but it's nice to see that Rocksteady is consistent with its voice talent. With what little action we get to see, there's definitely some new moves on display; Harley isn't just recycling animations from previous Catwoman content or anything. We also get a glimpse at the weapon options she'll have, including that candystriper bat, some kind of bombs, and a themed Jack-in-the-box.

Where the trailer gets interesting is in its implementation of Harley-vision. If you've played any of the Arkham games, you know that Batman's Detective Vision is a key aspect of navigating Gotham. His ability to see enemies through walls and smoke is tied to his cowl, where a heads-up display shows all manner of details through his lenses. Harley's version appears to be tied to rage, as you can see her screaming at the top of her lungs in one section, and suddenly the screen takes on a filtered form. The walls have "HAHAHA" scribblings, and enemies are portrayed in bright outlines. I guess it will make sense in the moment, but from the outside, Harley-vision doesn't quite mesh for me.

Before all is said and done, we get a quick look at her encounter with Nightwing, which will likely be the ultimate showdown in the DLC. Whatever grief you want to give Rocksteady's team for the drastic departures in Harley Quinn's designs through all three games (Rocksteady didn't work on Arkham Origins, remember), this new Nightwing looks sillier than all of them combined. That weird facemask is some kind of terrible. It's odd too, given that his outfit in Arkham City was actually on point. Whatever; at least he's still got his butt to fall back on.

Batman: Arkham Knight will be available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on June 23.
