DC Comics and Rocksteady Studios will help bridge the gap between the Dark Knight's next-gen crusade and the jaw-dropping ending of Arkham City with a prequel comic to Batman: Arkham Knight.

Rocksteady Studios has been doing the Batman: Arkham series since we first stepped foot in the Asylum in 2009 and is wrapping up its trilogy with its upcoming Arkham Knight game. The series is spectacular as far as superhero games go (I personally think Infinite Crisis is also shaping quite nicely). One of the reasons we love Arkham so much is because it's the most authentic Batman experience the video game medium has ever made.

However, this next game of the series is going to be different from its predecessors in that it's going to introduce a new villain never seen before in the Batman universe -- the mysterious Arkham Knight. Because of this, Arkham Knight is getting a Digital First prequel comic that will predate the game's events, Entertainment Weekly reports. Where Arkham City left off, Peter J. Tomasi's scripted comic will pick up. The comic will have art by Viktor Bogdanovic and Art Thibert as well as covers by Dan Panosian. In this story, "The Joker is dead, and the Arkham City prison complex is closed. In a dark place, Bruce Wayne is questioning whether Gotham needs Batman — but new trouble begins to stir, all of it tied to the Arkham Knight."

You can catch the first installment of the series, Arkham Knight #1, when it goes on sale Feb. 24. Batman: Arkham Knight will leave the Batcave on Jun. 2 for PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One.
