Arcade Spotlight: High Scores Arcade in Alameda, CA
Another Arcade Sushi Arcade Spotlight is here! Just in time for the 4th of July weekend. Put the kids in the car and head on down to Alameda, CA. where an awesome arcade resides.
Let’s give a super high-five to the husband and wife team of Shawn & Meg Livernoche, who opened up High Scores Arcade in Burlington, New Jersey back in 2010. Once they realized they were in New Jersey, they quickly moved out and relocated to Alameda, CA. which is like New Jersey except everyone showers. (Totally kidding. Don’t beat me up.)
High Scores Arcade focuses on the arcade classics of the ’80s with some ’90s games thrown in. They also have some pinball machines so the old farts like me don’t complain. They have 32 dedicated cabinets, including games like Donkey Kong, Karate Champ, Neo-Geo 109-1, Paper Boy and Tron. High Scores also has four pins, four more Multicades and a jukebox. Yep, the place is pretty darn awesome.
We should personally be thanking folks like the Livernoches for opening up an arcade in this current generation of stay-at-home gamers. Kids today have no idea how badass arcades were back in the day, and places like High Scores need to exist to keep the culture alive and kicking. Hard to talk smack to your opponent when they’re standing right next to you, isn’t it Junior?
Take a look at some pictures from this amazing throwback to the best decade in gaming. When you head on down, be sure to tell ‘em Arcade Sushi sent ya! We love you, High Scores Arcade!
