This latest trailer for Alone in the Dark: Illumination is bound to scare survival horror enthusiasts.

Atari's new trailer for Alone in the Dark: Illumination is filled with creepy environments and Lovecraftian themes, until you actually see its gameplay in action. It appears that, like the Resident Evil series, the sixth game of the Alone in the Dark franchise is putting action at its forefront. Since it's meant to be played cooperatively with up to four players, action-oriented gameplay will be Illumination's focus.

We think it's hilarious that the trailer's description called Alone in the Dark the "Father of the Survival Horror Genre," while the actual gameplay footage in the video completely undermined that title. The enemies laughably exploded from the characters' rapid machine gun fire. This trailer shows yet another once-great survival horror series throwing away the things we loved about it for the sake of becoming a cliche action-shooter for the sake of reaching a broader audience while happening to have a famous survival horror series as a theme for its action. Lets hope Atari's Haunted House remake isn't a first-person shooter.

Alone in the Dark: Illumination will be launching on PC soon for $29.99.
