This year the Independent Games Festival celebrates its 16th year, and ahead of the event has announced the nominees for the IGF Main Competition.

More than 650 nominations were entered into IGF this year, with the 375 judges whittling down those choices to the categories of Excellence in Visual Art, Excellence in Narrative, Excellence in Audio, Excellence in Design, the Nuovo Award (for innovation) and the Seamus McNally Grand Prize. Previous Grand Prize winners include Cart Life, Fez and Minecraft, and this year's winner will take home $30,000 in addition to the recognition and acclaim tied to the award.

Mobile mystery Device 6 is nominated for four awards, including Excellence in Visual Art, Narrative and Video. The Stanley Parable has been listed in three categories, while Papers, Please continues to find itself receiving acclaim as a potential winner of four of the awards. The Yahwg may only be nominated in two categories, but it's still a treat to see it among such prestigious company.

The Grand Prize should be one of the more heated battles of the show, with The Stanley Parable, Don't Starve, Papers, Please and Device 6 duking it out for top honors among some other top competitors. These games have been on the tips of everyone's tongues all year, and it's certainly not surprising to see them held in such high esteem here.
